Still have questions? Message us — we typically respond within a few hours.
Why can't I just use OTC retinol?
Retinol converts to retinoic acid (tretinoin) in the skin — but slowly and inefficiently. Prescription tretinoin is already the active form, meaning you get significantly stronger, faster results. For acne and pigmentation, the difference is even more dramatic.
Will tretinoin make my skin peel?
The "retinization period" — dryness, flaking, and sensitivity during the first 2–6 weeks — is real but manageable. Amber prescribes an introduction schedule designed to minimize this. Starting slowly and moisturizing well makes a significant difference.
Is hydroquinone safe?
At prescription concentrations (4%) used under medical supervision for defined treatment periods, hydroquinone has a strong safety record. Amber monitors use and builds breaks into your protocol as appropriate.
How long before I see results?
Most patients notice improved texture within 4–6 weeks. Acne improvements often begin at 3–4 weeks. Hyperpigmentation takes longer — typically 8–12 weeks for significant lightening. Patience pays off substantially with prescription skincare.
Can I use this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Tretinoin and hydroquinone are contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Amber screens for this during your assessment, and alternative pregnancy-safe options can be discussed.
What if my skin reacts badly?
Message Amber directly through your patient portal. Reactions can almost always be managed by adjusting frequency, concentration, or pairing with a barrier-supportive moisturizer — and your formula can be reformulated at any time if needed.
