Testosterone therapy for clinically low testosterone
Some men develop low testosterone (hypogonadism), which can be associated with symptoms such as fatigue, low mood, reduced libido, and changes in sleep. Testosterone therapy is a prescription treatment for men whose labs confirm clinically low testosterone and whose symptoms and health history support treatment.
How it works
- Health intake and lab work. Testosterone levels and related labs are required before treatment is considered.
- Provider evaluation. Amber Tomse, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, reviews your labs, symptoms, and history, and determines whether treatment is appropriate.
- Individualized plan. If prescribed, your dose and delivery method are based on your clinical needs.
- Ongoing monitoring. Follow-up labs and check-ins track hormone levels, blood counts, and other safety markers, and your plan is adjusted as needed.
Who this is for
Testosterone therapy is prescribed only to treat a documented medical condition. It is not prescribed for muscle building, athletic performance, or bodybuilding.
Important safety information
Testosterone therapy is not right for everyone. Possible risks include increased red blood cell count, acne, fluid retention, reduced fertility and sperm production, and effects on prostate health. Men who are trying to conceive should discuss fertility with their provider before starting. Regular lab monitoring is required.
Prescription treatment requires a medical evaluation and is not guaranteed. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and are not reviewed by FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality. Individual results vary.
